Several months ago, I wrote a post about tips to go to Costco. I recently went food shopping there and I actually remembered to take pictures of some of my favorite products and I wanted to share that with you.
Not everything is worth buying at Costco! It is important to become familiar with the prices of different products that you like to buy in order to get the best bang for your buck.
You probably have already noticed that the price of groceries has gone up. Costco is no different, but there are still some great finds.
I will admit that I still have not bought any of their prepared meals. That may have have to be a future post.
- Canned tomatoes. Whether diced, crushed, or tomato paste, these forms of canned tomatoes are worth buying in bulk. I wish I could say the same for tomato sauce but they are more expensive here than buying individual, smaller jars at the grocery store, Trader Joe’s, or Target.
2. Cheese and other dairy. I specifically love to buy feta cheese, shredded mozzarella, slice cheddar, and butter. I keep the butter in the freezer. The feta cheese stays fine for a long time. The other cheeses get split into smaller freezer-friendly bags and are pulled out as needed.
3. Peppers. They come in a 6 pack of red, yellow, and orange peppers, which are perfect for my frozen meals. Depending on your household size and fruits and vegetable taste, you would likely find other things worth buying. I don’t like their clementines. Grape tomatoes, Campari tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, and grapes are also worth checking out if you have enough people to eat the amount you buy before they go bad.
4. Chicken. I am not sure if these products are cheaper than buying at the regular grocery store but I think they are reasonably priced. I love the convenience of the individually-wrapped servings and the different cuts. I get chicken breast, boneless skinless chicken thighs, and cutlets every time. I often get drumsticks and rarely wings. Chicken tastes very good and quantities last several months in the deep freezer! In the past, I have gotten packs of ground turkey, which were also a great find.
5. Red meat. This is not for everyone but if you are familiar with the price of meat in your regular grocery store and what cuts you like, you can probably choose all the good deals here. For me, it is ground beef, stew meat, beef round, and chuck roast. If I go around the Jewish holidays, I pick up brisket as well. I split up all the meat into smaller bags and freeze them that way, or use some for my frozen meals.
Don’t be fooled by this short list. My cart was overflowing and the bottom was full as well! This is not an exhaustive list by any means and I bought a lot of other stuff, but these are some of my favorite finds.
Stay tuned for great finds in other stores like Target and Trader Joe’s in the future. As always, comment below with your favorite finds!
